PUBLIC HEARINGS ON TOLL INCREASE START THURSDAY
Public hearings on the Illinois Tollway’s planned toll increase will begin August 18. The Illinois Tollway has proposed increasing tolls on cars by 88-percent and they are also planning to move forward with a 2008 plan that raised tolls on trucks by 60-percent and raises tolls on trucks automatically each year according to the Consumer Price Index starting in 2018. The Tollway intends to move ahead with the 2008 truck toll increase even though they are not moving forward with the projects that were supposed to be paid for by the truck toll increase in that 2008 plan.
ITA Executive Director, Matt Hart, will be testifying at the hearings on behalf of the Illinois Trucking Association members, and we encourage all trucking companies to testify as well at the hearings. The Tollway Board could decide as early as September to finalize the toll increase plan.
